Cookie’s Last Word!: Movie Reviews

by Alexandra Savilo and Cookie “The REAL Napster” Savilo

Here at Word!, we like to keep things fresh and up to date. And so once a week, our dedicated and loyal editors have the task of gluing themselves for long, grueling hours in front of a movie theatre screen, wasting their precious paychecks and allowances to save you a buck or two at the box office. Some movies may have just come out, others have passed the “buzz” and are “watchable” if you’re the kind who doesn’t enjoy waiting in line for hours, or sitting in a theatre with a huge crowd with ringing cell phones, crying babies and flying popcorn.

We have the Cookie-O-Meter, which is essentially, Word!’s number one pet giving his paws up or paws down to latest motion pictures. Here are the ratings:

1 paw - Entirely nappable, Cookie would rather watch a fly on the wall.

2 paws - Cookie’s not reaching for the popcorn just yet, but his tail isn’t asleep either.

3 paws - Cookie approves, kept his attention the whole time and didn’t yawn once!

4 paws - Cookie equivalates this to his kibble treats, very good!

5 paws - Good luck getting Cookie off the table the TV’s sitting on, he’s glued to it, chasing the actors as if they were tennis balls in Wimbledon.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

So lets keep the fact that I watched a dog movie on the down-low, if you catch my drift. If the stuffed animals in my house find out I’ve been meowing with delight at talking toy puppies with such innocence that had not been brought to my mind since Stuart Little, well, who knows what they’d do! Anyhow, what can I say besides good clean fun? Its cheesy, its predictable, its everything you’d expect from a talking dog movie minus the scratchy annoying voice of Miley Cyrus. But if you’re a fan of Spanish accents and just all out silliness, than this is your groovy tune. If I ever went in an RV I’d like to have something like this pass my time.

So, with one paw over his eyes in embarrassment Cookie gives this movie two and and three-quarters of a paw. Which takes some skills, when you think about it.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist:

What can a cat say? The story of two teen audiophiles wo fall hard for each other one wild night in New York City, this movie is keeeeyote. Michael Cera is awkward and adorable and Kat Dennings makes being Jewish look incredibly sexy for the first time since…Seth Cohen, possibly? It made Cookie think fondly of his days as a studly young cat, pursuing–nevermind.  Just go see it, preferably with someone whose hands you can hold over the popcorn. Or whatever it is you humans do.

Cookie gives this film three paws and a reluctant”awww.” Now scat and leave him to contemplate his waterbowl.
