Cookie’s Last Word: Movie Reviews
by Alexandra Savilo and Cookie Savilo
Here at Word! we like to keep things fresh and up to date. And so once a week, our dedicated and loyal editors have the task of gluing themselves for long, grueling hours in front of a movie theatre screen, wasting their precious paychecks and allowances to save you a buck or two at the box office. Some movies may have just come out, others have passed the “buzz” and are “watchable” if you’re the kind who doesn’t enjoy waiting in line for hours, or sitting in a theatre with a huge crowd with ringing cell phones, crying babies and flying popcorn.
We have the Cookie-O-Meter, which is essentially, Word!’s number one pet giving his paws up or paws down to latest motion pictures. Here are the ratings:
1 paw - Entirely nappable, Cookie would rather watch a fly on the wall.
2 paws - Cookie’s not reaching for the popcorn just yet, but his tail isn’t asleep either.
3 paws - Cookie approves, kept his attention the whole time and didn’t yawn once!
4 paws - Cookie equivalates this to his kibble treats, very good!
5 paws - Good luck getting Cookie off the table the TV’s sitting on, he’s glued to it, chasing the actors as if they were tennis balls in Wimbledon.
Get Smart : If you’re into spoofs, or just want a small laugh then gander your eyes this way. Starring Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway and The Rock, this movie treks all over the world to save their agency, and themselves. Its a light, predictable, blockbuster that has nothing really out of the ordinary that what we’ve seen from these actors already. Its one of those movies you can watch on the airplane - good to pass the time. You’ll like it, but forget it, like a Disney TV movie.
Cookie gave this movie 1 and a half paws.
Kung Fu Panda - A Jack Black movie. Recently all the new movies out are very commandeered to a specific celebrity in or producing the film. It’s got to be one of DreamWorks’ better animations seeing as they actually have a plot to this story and that they haven’t entirely dumbed it down for the audience. And Cookie doesn’t mind mentioning that Dustin Hoffman did a hilarious job. Way to go to keep real comedy in comedies.
Cookie is struggling in between 2 and a half paws, and three.
WALL - E - Cookie thinks its Pixar’s best movie yet. Perfect for all ages, adults can see the deeper context in relation to the Axiom’s inhabitants, while others see it for the beautiful love story, and the little munchkins just adore WALL-E and Mo and EVE and the rest of the gang! Never disrespect true art in perfect animation and cinematography.
Cookie doesn’t have five paws, but he’s using his tail as a substitute to give it everything’s he’s got in approval. Just don’t stand too close, he might let one drop, if you catch my drift.
Mamma Mia! - The ABBA musical. Amanda Seyfried really steps up in contrast to her former Mean Girls co-star Lindsay Lohan. There are some pretty startling pipes in this movie, both good and bad. The leaks? Pierce Brosnan should stick to his former Bond glory. But who knew that Meryl Streep could do something else other than drama! Lots of eye candy, great tunes, and Cookie considers this the ultimate chick flick. If it doesn’t have you standing up and dancing in the aisles or screaming like, well, a girl, then you’ve got some issues.
Cookie is not a girl, and thus gives three paws.
That’s all for this week folks, we hope you enjoyed our reviews! Be sure to let us know what you think of our feature films and our reviews; you’re what matters the most to us!
Editor’s note: When asked about why he left out The Dark Knight, Cookie merely remarked acidly that the Joker gave him the heebiejeebies, and that he wanted to enjoy his few remaining lives without dreams tainted by Heath Ledger’s deranged portrayal. Here’s a tip from our litterbox, though. GO SEE IT. NAOW.]
